ntgreat | ntgreat Member 2002-Jun-21 8:29 am WTF is up in NOVA?Okay, I am going into my 4th day without internet service at home. I don't mean an intermittant connection, but a nonexistent one. I see my Toshiba modem try so hard to make a connection (blink, blink, blink, blink), but nothing. On Tuesday, June 18th, a message on Cox's phone support said that there are problems in Springfield and Burke. Cox tech said that it should be back up soon. I call in on June 20th, to the same support number, and I keep on getting a "all circuits are busy" message. I'm like "wtf is going on?" I finally get through on the 10th try and a new message states that there are now problems in West Springfield and 4-5 other places. I just hang up the phone after that since a tech will probably tell me that my connection will be back soon. I wake up this morning, June 21st, and it's still out. Now I've come to the conclusion that this isn't a planned outage for Cox's Digital Revolution, 'cause if it is, this is just poor planning on Cox's part. Any Cox techs out there have some info about what's going on? I could be talking out of my A$$ now since I am at work and have no idea if my connection has been restored. But if I had to take a guess, it's probably still out... |

Cz4r | Cz4r Member 2002-Jun-21 9:46 am My connection has been out for days now also. The only thing I've been able to do is get credit on my account. Every time I contact Cox, they just tell me there is an outage in Centreville, and they don't know when it's going to be fixed. DSL is looking better and better every day. -cz |

| Cz4r Member 2002-Jun-21 1:44 pm I just had a chat with a Cox tech. They said my account was missing my modem's (linksys) MAC address and the serial number. Now, I don't know why suddenly that information is missing on my account when I've been using Cox HSI for the past month or so, but I've always thought they needed the MAC address in order to provide service. -cz |

| Hank Premium Member 2002-Jun-21 5:28 pm I am curious. Did the reprogram your modem? Has your service problem been corrected? |

Cz4r | Cz4r Member 2002-Jun-21 6:08 pm I just got home from work...called up Cox...gave them my MAC address...and now everything is peachy. The tech mentioned that there was an error in the system. What that means exactly is anyone's guess. :\ I'm getting decent pings now too: 1 17 ms 17 ms 15 ms ip68-100-160-1.nv.nv.cox.net [68.100.160.1] Hopefully this will last -cz |

ntgreat | ntgreat Member 2002-Jun-22 2:01 pm Jeezus, I wish I had read this all before I left work on Friday. I was having the same problem. What was screwing me up was the fact that every time I called in, there was a message saying that an outage was affecting my area. I assumed it had something to do with this. However, I got fed up today and decided to talk to a Cox tech again and they found that they were using the Mac address for my old surfboard. She also mentioned something about the auto discovery problem. So the nice lady put in the info. for the Toshiba and now everything's working great! BTW, I got credit on my account from Tuesday to Saturday (today)! Woo hoo! That's why I make it a point to always have them document that I am having problems, the moment it starts happening. |

| runciter to ntgreat Member 2002-Jun-23 5:14 am How did you all get credit for the outage? Since I've got lots of free time (laid off), I'm on the computer often and can tell when it goes out so I call up as soon as it happens. So I called up several times when the outages happened for me Thursday and Friday. They mentioned no clue the first time then later mentioned head end problems, but no mention of any credit. Incidentally they must have been having more problems than just MAC addresses as they had mine. Anyhow, having some packet loss issues now so things are 100% rosy here, but at least I'm connected. |

| TheDarkElf to Cz4r Member 2002-Jun-23 4:40 pm I've been getting pretty good service lately, besides the fact that I get crazy pings sometimes. McLean is on a good node. |

ntgreat | ntgreat to runciter Member 2002-Jun-24 9:25 am Not sure what to tell you, I guess I just got lucky. I tried to be firm and said "I need a credit from this date to this one", instead of "Is it possible to get a credit". The lady at billing, when I first told her I needed a credit on my account, was like, "uhhh, ummm". So I was like, "I have called in twice before and the tech made sure to document when the problem started, but he said to call back when my internet was fixed so I could get credit. I just talked to a tech that actually transferred me to you, and we just fixed the problem, so I need a credit, please." I don't know if there is any other magical way to do this. However, I've had a long history of getting credits on my account and even filed a complaint with Cox at one point. This may have been a contributing factor. |

| runciter Member 2002-Jun-24 4:21 pm ah, thanks for the info. I didn't ask for a credit, just wondering if it were offered by them (apparently not). Just curious, how much credit did you get? I'd guess 1 or 2 days of credit would be, what... $1 or $2? |
· actions · 2002-Jun-24 4:21 pm · | |
ntgreat | ntgreat Member 2002-Jun-24 4:33 pm Credit from June 18 to the 22nd. I'm not exactly sure how much it is per day. I would guess a dollar or two like you said. |

jbahlman5 | jbahlman5 Member 2002-Jun-26 9:22 am I call every couple of days to let them know i'm still having problems with speeds and latency and disconnects. They have given me credit for everyday so far. Its going on a month now. My Cable modem bill i just got was for $3 not bad except it wasn't even worth that price. |

Cz4r | Cz4r to dan in fl Member 2002-Jun-27 1:57 pm I just hope it forces Cox to get on the ball with the whole upgrade/transition. I know when I lived in Alexandria, VA, my Comcast transition was pretty much flawless (and my connection actually got better as a result.) I for one wouldn't mind seeing what Comcast could do in Fairfax County. -cz |
