The next Greyscale full length release is here! BT Gate X-138 titled 'kV Pylon' takes us on an amazing adventure through various emotions throughout this extraordinary sonic masterpiece. Listen through these near 70 minutes of expertly crafted spacious dub techno episodes.
'10kV' is a perfect moodsetter as it's the introduction into the world that BT Gate X-138 creates. Remnants of distance melodies are the backdrop while interference comes from choice field recordings and accompanying selective chord work. This strategy continues through many of the tracks.
'69kV' builds an amazing anticipation and it then delivers in spades.
The lower frequencies are balanced adeptly with the higher ones that you can get lost listening to any particular set of sounds. The depth in this track is unbelievable! '330kV Test' is also a shining example of the importance of ambient depth in the dub techno genre. These tracks create a universe among themselves as the beat almost becomes out of mind as you focus in on the ongoings' within. The Glinnik Smoker Reshape of 320kV is a pure beauty adding more layers of whimsical well-crafted melody touches on top of this more orthodox dub rhythm. '115kV (For O)' is another similarly styled piece where gentle melodies float over a downtempo techno beat that hypnotizes you. This album isn't void of darker warehouse burners though. '350kV (Hard Dub Reshape)' gives you that sweaty early morning sound that is so powerful when done correctly. '230kV' isn't far behind those emotions as this is equally in that vein but just adding some relief with a more reggae dub tinged bassline. '400kV (420kV Factory Remix)' is perhaps the techiest of the lot. A real treat this one! 'kV Pylon' succeeds at making a futuristic techno sound from this album while still deep rooted in the traditions. The atmospheres are grandeos and fulfilling. This is sure to impress and win over any techno or any ambient fan. BT Gate X-138 has delivered a winner! Greyscale #28 has all you could ask for and then some!
