As the Israel-Hamas war crosses the seven-month mark, negotiations are apparently stalled to secure the release of hostages taken by the terrorist organization, and Israeli forces continue to launch incursions in the southern Gazan town of Rafah ahead of a possible large-scale invasion. Israeli forces confirmed the deaths of four more hostages: Haim Perry, Yoram Metzger, Amiram Cooper and Nadav Popplewell. The four hostages likely died a few months ago, possibly as early as December, in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said Monday.

Murder charges dropped against Minnesota officer Ryan Londregan in death of Ricky Cobb II
A Minnesota trooper who fatally shot an unarmed Black man during a routine traffic stop last July has had the charges against him dismissed. Ryan Londregan, the white state trooper accused of killing Ricky Cobb II, 33, had faced charges of second-degree unintentional murder, first-degree assault and second-degree manslaughter. In a statement Sunday night, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced that the charges against Londregan would be thrown out.

Lava began to emerge from the summit of the famed volcano, located at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island, around 12:30 a.m. local time, prompting the USGS to raise the alert level to red. A red alert signifies that a volcanic eruption is imminent, underway or suspected, with potential hazardous activity on the ground and in the air.

A man in Colorado literally dodged a bullet thanks to his chain, according to police. The victim was wearing a silver chain, about 10 millimeters in width, when he got into an argument with an armed man on Tuesday, according to police in Commerce City, just outside of Denver. The suspect fired, and instead of hitting the victim in the neck, the .22-caliber bullet got lodged in the chain, police said.

The first major California wildfire of the year was 50% contained Monday morning after high winds caused it to spread over the weekend to 14,168 acres, officials said. The Corral Fire is burning in San Joaquin County about 50 miles outside San Francisco, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The fire ignited Saturday around 2:30 p.m. PT near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Altamont Pass area of Northern California's Diablo Range and spread into Stanislaus Stanislaus County, reaching the western edge of Tracy, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc. announced with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that it is recalling whole cucumbers due to the potential for them to be contaminated with salmonella. "The recall was initiated after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture informed the company that a product sample tested positive for the bacteria," the recall stated. "The FDA is conducting whole genome sequencing to determine if this sample is related to an ongoing Salmonella outbreak investigation."
