This Friday I had the opportunity to assist the #smartcity expo and its side event #FestiBO, events full of experts, sharing their knowledge about how to implement technology in a way that people and the government are more connected. I attended the conference “Teams del mundo:¿Qué pasaría si las ciudades usan la tecnología y la innovación para potencializar los derechos de los ciudadanos y ciudadanas?” Led by Blomberg and attended by professionals they work with from Mexico City, San Francisco, Amsterdam, and Bogota. In particular, I got attracted by the cases from Mexico City and Amsterdam.In Mexico City, they realized that the most effective way to obtain citizens' information, reduce miss-coordination, and develop inhabitants' solutions is by using a common data environment, which allows them to gather all that information diminishing the loss of valuable data and get them faster and more precise solutions. The administration has hired its software development department to create a whole platform where most of the people's needs Can be taken care of and followed up. On the other hand, Amsterdam, as one of the main cities in Europe and the most desired cities to live by migrants, has developed a planning system based on BIM and their digital twins' principle, to coordinate the city’s growth based on a more accurate and detailed urbanistic plan engaged with the city’s diversity.For me, it was such a pleasant and comforting experience to hear that our authorities around the globe are using modern technology to engage people in a way they can perceive their participation and experience the outcomes of their work in association with the government. I will keep an eye on what Bogota has to offer to us, how they will keep implementing these gineiun practices, and more events like these, the ones you can assist to open your mind to the ocean of new possibilities and opportunities technology is bringing to us.
