I've been looking to upgrade to a bigge smoker, I've been cooking with a brinkman smokin pit pro for about two years now.
I've seen this smoker on CL for a while now, and watching the price drop also. I see a couple things right off that I'd want to fix, like a proper sized fire box, and possibly moving the chimney. But what do you guys think of this rig, considering the price?

If you are going to do that work you may want to add another rack too. $700 seems reasonable. Do you know how much the work you want done is going to cost?

Not at all, I'm guessing material costs, plus beer and food, as I have friend with welding skills. I'm guessing I might be able to talk this owner down to maybe $500

Dose not look bad but will need some work. One thing that stuck out in the add was "very negotiable" . Which to me I would offer $400.

That's what I'm afraid of, which is why I'm asking for advice

From what I could see of the fire box, it looked on the small side. Not sure about the exhaust either. I would think it would of been better coming out the end at about cooking grate level. If my suspicions are right, and it is poorly engineered, you may be in for a lot more work than you planned to get it working smoothly.

For $700 build two drums and a nice stand for them to nest in.

I would personally want to know the condition of the firebox as far as metal thickness and corrosion... The stack is defiantly undersized in my opinion.... Are the tires in good shape or dry rotted???? you can have a 750 to 1000tied up in that thing before you know if all is not good now.... Not being negative at all just weigh everything out and do the economics!!!! Do not want to see a brother foul up!!!!!

I immediately saw those tiny stacks....not sure if they'd provide enough draw. Then again I'm not a builder, so take my advise with a grain of salt. Listen to others like TQ who build these things and have far more experience.

You are basically buying a trailor and a tank. The question really is this tank and trailor worth x.
That is not a smoker in its current configuration. Tell the guy to fire it up and get it to 275 and hold it there for 1 hr. If he can you'll pay double if he can't it's free.

Looks to me like its setup to run on propane also.. If u look at the front you can see three small pipes coming out the tank that are probably burners. And a rack on the toung of the trailer for propane tanks. I honestly think for a lil more money you could find something a lot better.
