What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about delicious appetizers or snacks?

The first one that comes to mine is the Middle Eastern spread, called hummus.

I am sure that most of you know perfectly what it is, but just in case there is still somebody who doesn’t, I will explain it in a few words.

Hummus means chickpeas in Arabic and the spread’s name is called ‘Hummus bi tahina’ which means chickpeas with Tahini. It is most popular in Middle Eastern cuisine, but in recent years its popularity skyrocketed in the US and Europe.

According to Wikipedia, 12 percent of American households used it back in 2006. By 2009 the number grew to 17 percent. That was 8 years ago. You can imagine where it is now.

There are several reasons why it became so popular and I will mention a few of them:

  • It’s healthy
  • It’s filling and nourishing
  • It’s very easy to make
  • Last but not least, it’s so damn delicious

Sounds pretty convincing, doesn’t it?
But most people don’t know about the third reason and think of it as an exotic dish that’s complicated and takes long to make. Hence, they buy it ready-made from grocery stores.

This is not necessarily a bad thing by no means, especially if it’s very good quality. But you really need to try making your own hummus at home and then decide on your favorite.

I always say ‘If it’s easy enough to make it at home, then forget about store-bought. Homemade is always delish and a lot healthier.’ And that applies to all the dishes I made, not just this one.

So today I will show you how to make 4 easy hummus recipes that will make you forget about the one in the stores. They have all the properties mentioned above, thus I think these are the best hummus recipes.
